After 40 minutes of sorting out the front-end wiring and getting it all nice and cleanly setup as per the manual *proud* I took the bike out for it's 2nd development/tuning ride tonight...

:o The bike is possesed, I magically have the carbs dialed almost perfectly after only 1 tuning run, pulls very hard at all RPMs from WOT, FREAKING LOUD with the pod filters and the full V&H headers and sport exhaust I also think the advanced timing via the Powerpak was resulting in a few pops on down shifts.

Brakes, the difference between the stock setup and the R6 MC/Calipers /w steel lines is night and day, the stopping power is almost dangerious. I can only imagine what would happen with new rotors.

Suspension, the only issue I see at this point is it being unbalanced, I have a .95kg race tech setup on the front /w 25mm of preload right now, and a worm stock shock in the rear on the highest preload, at this point the fastest way I see addressing this issue is shelving the Ohlins for now and getting a Penske rear...

I also think I started the call of the wild, I went out pretty late tonight, maybe around 12:30am, it was DEAD QUIET in my area and all the local chill spots where vacant, other then myself and a lot of bored cops it was nice and dead, perfect for testing out the bike and not having to deal with insane traffic. So, of course when I get home around 1:30 and finish packing everything up in the garage and have my helmet off, I hear three seperate bikes ripping around the area. One of them kind enough to grace me with a stoppy at the three way stop just by my house :thumbsdown :-D

Another tuning ride, much longer this time...

So far so good, turned the mixture screws out .5 turns to 3 turns total before this ride, and the bike fired right up, 2.5 turns out needed a few more turns of the crank before she'd fire, had a great ride and also found a flat spot on my way home on the highway, looks like I need to bring the needle down a spot, I'm not sure if I want to tune the top end any more, the 120 main I have on there now seems to pull VERY hard. we'll see, I want to get it right so I'll probably try a couple mains first before moving to tuning the mid section.

I Also had more pops when rolling off the throttle quickly, I think this is in the mid range so I wouldn't be surprised if this just supports lowering the needle a clip.

Oddly, after I got off the highway I lost two cylinders, only seemed to be a WOT in any RPM, I also switched the petcock to RES and it seemed to help so I'm wondering if there is some vapour in the carbs.. We'll see if this continues to be a problem next ride...

Also I picked up some new last years model Technic Speedstar gloves today, $99 at my local shop (MARKED DOWN BIG TIME)

I also had a new clutch bearing show up! NOS from ebay.

cheers

Sounds like you have been busy there Goose, glad to see you have it back on the road! The summer temps around here are already unbearable during the day 103-105 degrees! But at least it isn't flooding like those poor souls on the Mississippi!!

sounds about right.
:swear :swear :swear Just lost a three paragraph post... Any how, ya... I'm going to lower the needle tonight, I can load up the rear suspension when rolling on above 7000rpm so I'm going to stick with the 120main for now (@ 200 feet above sea level /w pod filters).

Does anyone know of a good excel spreadsheet for tracking carb tuning changes?

Back for more, I guess I'll just update here cuz there is a pulse here. :P

I got my Penske shock back from Penske and was able to get it installed, afterward I took the bike out for a test ride and was quickly amazed and the improvement in handling and feel of the bike.

Note the gauge, currently reading "Air" since the bike is off.

Also installed a new to me (3500 miles) coils and hand controls (my light switch was dead and thus had no headlights, so I spliced in the low beam so I could ride). The new coils helped a lot and once I got the stock coils off I took the plug caps off the coil wires and low and behold, #2 plug cap was rusted at the wire/cap connector and #4 had a rusted cap to spark plug connector, so there was obviously a need to replace them. Replacing the coils came about after taking exhaust temperature readings and cyl #2 and #4 where about 50f cooler then #1 and #3.

Next on the list is the metmachex swingarm, I think I'm going to powder coat it the same as the rest of the frame and sinc ethe bearings are shot I need to pull them anyways, hopefully I'll get the swingarm up to the coaters next week.

Picked up some new CRG RAC levers from Rider's Choice(local shop)] to replace the OE R6 levers for both the clutch and brake, very nice fit and finish, although it appears as though I will need a slightly shorter clutch cable, there is enough tension to engage and disengage the clutch so it's ride-able but nothing long-term, I'll have to order one from Motion Pro as their custom cables are very affordable.
