If you have a 99 then you have the updated Regulatorj20brett wrote:My 99 600 is doing the same thing. Ive seen some references to using an R6 voltage regulator also. Any particular year range to get? Wiring involved or plug and play?

Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
Thanks! Even so, does this problem sound like the regulator going out? Could it be the igniter going out? Mainly does it while im on the highway. Cuts in and out losing a cylinder. It will run perfectly normal for a few miles then just bog down.
Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
If the battery dies then its the regulator, if not then its something else. I'm waiting on a new ignitor box to show up and try.

Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
Checked the voltage earlier and its 14.1 at 2500rpm. Guess its the igniter then. Did you buy a new oem one or aftermarket or used?
Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
Yeah got a good, used igniter and its still doing it. Ef.
Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
Air leaking some where? (Carb boots or Airbox) Is your air box still on the carbs correctly?
If none of the above, u may need to clean your carbs, sync carbs, or adjust your A/F mixture screws, if your VR is good...
Ohhh, check your spark plug wires to make sure they are not damaged too... Better to check them in the dark, so u can see if any one is messed up. Look for a blueish light coming from the wire(s)...

Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
hmm. Back to fundamentals then.
has the valve clearance been checked? May be that the valves are heating up, growing and losing their seal (going zero clearance while hot)

Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
I swapped the ignitor box also and no change. The boots are cracked, but no worse than before. I haven't checked the valves. But this is a problem that happened over night. My coils and wires are new.

Both of you guys...
does this problem come on like a switch is thrown? Running fine, then running bad immediately? Or does it just taper off?

Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
it *could* be valves, since 10 minutes = just getting warmed up

I guess it could be the valves. Dang i reall didnt want to tear that far into it. :bangsheadonwall:
Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
Mine is like a switch. Instantly bad. Went and attempted to put it through its paces the other day and it was running like a freaking top. then at WOT at about 130mph it starts the whole stumble/cutting out a cylinder thing. Slow down to 70 and its fine for a bit, then just cruising along later it will do it again. Slow down to a stoplight, speed up and its fine again? Strange.reelrazor wrote:Both of you guys...

Re: Losing power and dying after 10 minutes
Check the fuel tank vent. It's in the fuel cap. It lets air IN to replace the volume as the gas level drops. If the vent is plugged the tank gets a vacuum condition....the pump can't fill the bowls....and you get running problems, that disappear after a period of low load. If this IS the problem, it will be less noticeable when the tank is very FULL, or damn near empty.j20brett wrote:Mine is like a switch. Instantly bad. If you can get stopped and shut the bike off when this happens and immediately open the cap and hear a sucking sound, or just pop the cap and fire it back up and the problem is gone, this may be the issue.
