Rage,
Good to see you pulled it of.
Again I say when in doubt gas it. If you would have chopped the throttle (Let off th fuel) you would have stood upright at the exact wrong time it sounds like and you would be telling us about the barbed wire and how it efected yur leathers and bike.
Every time go to the track..EVERYTIME!, I need to do this very exercise. Inevidably I will get in too hot, in the wrong spot, what ever the reasaon, and I find my self doing one of three things.
1) I hold throttle lean a bit more and will myself through all the time telling myself relax relax lean you'll make it
2) I give it a bit more gas as the back end gets loose a bit or squirrly. This gets the tire spinning a litle and enough to give control back to me and pull it out of the corner
3) I push down on the knee slider and upright a low side about to/in the begining stage of happening
BUT and this is a big BUT I prepare myself mentally all the time for this situation.
When I got back into racig after many years off I crashed hard very quickly and rememebred the above a bit too late. So I spent weeks maybe months repeating to myself. When the back end goes gas it, gas it gas it.
It takes a lot of mental preparedness (SIC?) to do the exact opposite of what you think you should be doing to survive. turnign off teh gas does not stop the bike its not a video game. Even just not giving it more gas and holding it instead of chopping the throttle is hard to overcome. This has saved me more times than I can count now.
Rage - did not mean to jack your thread just reiterating what you were saying.
Guys the tires out there now a days are above most of our riding skills anyway.
Michelin did its job as rage said. The tires out performed his riding goof. You should trust your tires when in this situation. They will generally hold a bit more than you think they can. I can get to that edge on the track and its a lot more leaned over or faster in the corner than most street riders think or are capable of pushing them in a controled manner.
Good for you Rage. I bet your butt puckered a bit huh? I read your thread on the track day ride you posted. Glad to see you made it and it all worked out.

Rage, I think Mossy will agree with me on this.
If you are going to go look at this corner look at the exit and work backwards.
where do you want to be on the exit?
where should my bike be pointing to get the drive out I want.
at the apex where should I be to achieve this
at the entry where do I need to have my turn point to get it where I want at the apex.
coming into the corner where do I need to brake to set my corner speed
Get off the bike and look at the corner. how is it pitched? off camber? banked? flat?
It all factors in
Good luck

I'm doing that with the Track Days. I have a video in my head of going around each corner and try to remember what line I took that worked the best. This is one of the reasons I think Gateway is a very good beginning track - you can see everything clearly since the track is open and flat.China_Racer_1 wrote:Get off the bike and look at the corner. how is it pitched? off camber? banked? flat?
Thanks for all the pointers guys...

Sometimes i practice by closing my eyes and reading the ripple strip like braille with my knee.LOL
Smooth gets the power down.Flow through the corners in a higher gear at the start of a session then attack them when you have the line perfected.
Only the best of the best can perfect and practice the complete track at a time.
pick a couple of corners and work on them then move to different corners to work on.Then your ready to carve the competition.
You will be racer soon. You have the begining bug already.

Not gonna happen. This is as far as it gets for Rage. If I were slightly younger and had 4 less kids, things may have been different.mossy1200 wrote:You will be racer soon. You have the begining bug already.

Re: As RAGE prepares for the LOWSIDE...
Glad to hear your ok man i did something similar last year, being young and dumb decided to take an unknown road, at night... with no speedo. Came into a turn to hot and was scraping my peg when i realized that i was wondering out. I ended up standing up the bike at the last minute and nailing the brakes before riding into some bushes on the side of the road. Lol ironically the crashing wasn't the scary part it was that moment like you said of, oh god what have i done, can i make it out, what do i do, I hope i'll be ok, etc. The next day i went back looking for a peice i had lost from my boot and discovered i had crashed about 10-15 feet before a 20 foot drop to someones yard. Lol that was the point that made me realize i had to slow down and get some more experience under my belt.
This was the type of ending i was expecting to hear from you. I'm glad you made it out ok man.
