grinding noise when i put bike in gear?

well here it goes i just recently put my new clutch cable on and put it in gear when i take off it starts grinding inside cant figure out what it is and yamaha wants 85 dollars just to look at it any help would be appreciated

Sounds to me like your clutch cable is out of adjustment and your clutch isn't fully engaged when you try to shift. Someone around here has a write-up or sticky on how to adjust the clutch cable.

Does it happen the whole time you are riding or just on initial take off, I just did mine over the weekend and when first taking off I get the grinding/clunking type noise that goes away after I start accelerating. I just thought it was due to my chain and sprockets as I could use new ones but I could be wrong. I followed Haynes Manual for adjustment and had to back the initial adjustment screw out about another 1/4 turn just so the clutch would fully disengage. I would be interested as to a fix also
