I say go with the aircraft stripper and get some decent paint applied. The Heavy Duty / Contruction Rustoleum sticks well and once fully dry provides a tough shell.
Thats what I was thinking as well. Couple hundred bucks to powercoat or a $5 buck can of construction rustoleum. The later wins it for me.
