Broken Bolt

Post by cad600 »

Well, just like it says. I broke a bolt head off. What is the best way to get it out? I have a "gator grip" screw extractor and another extractor set, but I've never really had any luck with using them. Is there a trick that will help or another product that works really well?
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Well, sorry to say but you need to try and extract it first and then drill it out and re tap it. Do not get in a hurry.

I've never had much luck extracting broken bolts. If there is some left sticking out, the best method I've used is to dremel a slot into it and use a flat head screwdriver to unscrew it. Beyond that, drill slowly down the middle and try your luck with an easy out. It's never like the name implies though. Soak it in PB or liquid wrench, heat it with a torch if possible...anything to make it turn easier. Then try your luck.

Left hand drill bits. Works in most situations.

It is the bolt for the shift dent arm. I was installing a Factory Pro shift kit.
