Re: R6 VR mod
These may sound like two dumb questions, but how do i check the voltage coming out of my new regulator and what should it be?

Check out this flowchart, it walks you through diagnosing your VR. Print it out, grab your multimeter, and head out to the garage. A second set of hands can be useful too.

Re: R6 VR mod
If you have the 1994 and earlier old style, then no, it is not. naeslas had a good comparison to show the difference.95FZR600 wrote:Is the YZF a direct swap?

Re: R6 VR mod
It's not too tricky though, the newer VR has an extra lead for ground. I just used female quick disconnects (the yellow 10-12ga ones fit perfect) to connect the wires (pics above).95FZR600 wrote:Is the YZF a direct swap?
I'd love to find the newer style wiring harness to replace the quick connects so that it looks a bit nicer. Does anyone know where I might find the harness? It's not listed on the fiche for the YZF/R6.

Re: R6 VR mod
yzf, r6, r1 whatever, they are all the same.
I just swapped out my stock fzr VR(2nd one i've installed)
Went to the wreckers and got a R1 VR.
Naeslas' instructions are great and it works great, you dont need to be a master electrician to install one. just know how to crimp some wire and attach blade connectors, took me 20minutes which included drilling a new hole in my frame because I have the airtech tail. easy as PIE

Re: R6 VR mod
I have a 91 FZR 600. recently some douche bags tried to steal it and destroyed my ignition system. They also cut the ignition wires 2 try and hot wire the bike, the whole time not noticing the fluro yellow disc brake lock preventing it from moving. Well i got a new ignition system wired it up and turned the key.........nothing no power at all. I checked the battery and it has plenty of charge. I checked the fuses, they are fine. I even got a mate to get his multi meter out 2 find out where the power was and wasnt going, he was of little help. Any other possible ideas before i pay out the ass for a Yamaha dealer to fix it???
Any help would be massively appreciated.
Cheers,
Xavier.

Preferably have them take it to your local Yamaha dealer, failing that any reputable motorcycle shop.
