Cross polination section

Post by megaloxana »

I was thinking we make a section with a list and possibly links to how-tos for parts that can be cross polinated from other bikes. Should limit this section to straight bolt on mods, light modification and maybe more in depth mods as long as they have a how-to. So stuff like r6 brakes and yzf600 tank conversions. This would include detailed years and referance pictures perhaps for direct bolt ons.

What do you guys think?

that would be cool , i think it will be kind of hard though unless numerous old school guys come on from the other board because its pretty hard to find that info unless racers and people who do the hybrid types give input . i would love to be able to fit a single sided swingarm from a ducati or honda , ive seen it , and have seen it started only to be dropped because to hard , but i think that sets more fzr apart other then your usual and normal mods

Megaloxana- That was the thinking behind the hybrid sections in the WIKI. Right now I have a HUGE list of brake parts that are interchangeable, submit what you have and we will get it up ASAP.

Doesn't CAD600 have a VFR single swinger on his? Might have to ask him for some info on it if he wants to share.

Shogun- here is a nice write up on the yzf600 tank and another for '95 ZX-7 front master cylinder

Yeah PM Cad about the swing arm.

Here is his build thread on The Archives
http://www.fzrarchives.com/ipb/index.ph ... opic=36941.

He continued it on here as well in our Hybrid section. I also agree that this is a good idea.

I think we'll leave "modifications" out of the WIKI. If it's a bolt-on aftermarket item, then we'll probably leave it there.

It would be best to leave any "modifications" that require some machining in the Garage sections so people can ask questions. Most are usually not peel-and-stick installations.

My other concern though is getting to many "sticky" threads in the Garage sections. Maybe we can create sub-forums in each: Major Modifications, etc...

Thoughts?

The only issue I see with not having modifications in the wiki is the preservation of images. Most of the images I see are privately hosted. Once that photobucket image is deleted, bam, we lose content. If we have a clean write up, some of the easy mods can move into the wiki for preservation purposes. Machining parts does create an issue, so keeping the mod in the garage until maturity (ie. we have specs, part numbers etc) is a good idea. Leaving only step by step write-ups that are complete in the wiki.

Ideally some one should be able to go to the wiki pick a project, buy the supplies, and follow the instructions.

Can we clarify which size bike it will work with? I see so many people doing mods to the 600 but not sure if i can do the same to my 1000. Finding parts for the 1000 is tough but if they are the same as the 600 then much easier.

Yes this was pretty much my initial thought on all this. There is a lot of really good info on cross polination for the 600's but its all scattered everywhere and i think that it would benefit the community greatly if we started to gather all that information in one place. I like the seperate garage forum section idea to keep sticky posts on the not-so-bolt-on mods and let them get ironed out and "matured" until properly making a home for them on the wiki. Shogun makes another good point on the preservation factor. Nothing proves that more than the scare we had when the archives went down and everyone thinking all the info was lost forever.

BILTIT - I feel your pain, I am working on some 1000 content, however the 600 guys are churning info out at a blistering pace :whistle They seem to do that on every FZR forum, there's simply too many of them.

I agree, too many of them, haha!

Hopefully we can get some good info together for all sizes.
