How Far do you ride?
Hey, I'm a little curious on the adverage miles people rack up during a ride when when on their fizzers. I have other bikes I ride as the fizzer is down right now, but plans are to have it worked on this winter and ready to go by spring. After getting it back and running fine when I do my 10-day ride as I do every summer, Im thinking about riding my 600FZR if its up to it. I have a friend with a sport tourer, and we always enjoy a ride into the mountans in the summer.
I guess Im wondering if anyone tours with their bike, and how does it work out?
Thanks.

Re: How Far do you ride?
Average between 25 and 50 miles on most Saturdays, except lately, have been doing other things. 90% of the time I ride motocross all day every Sunday though. Hopefully I'll start racking up some more miles soon now that the exhaust system and dogbones are installed.
Pretty pathetic, I know, but I don't use the bike to commute to work, just don't trust any of the cagers during rush hour that much. I truly look forward to moving out of this region in a few years. It's so crowded it makes me want to puke sometimes. Of course, compared to Chicago, New York City or Los Angeles I guess it's not too bad.
No, I don't do touring, but I'd like to start dual-sport tours in a few years once we move away... and still ride street and MX as much as possible. At some point the wife wants to have kids so that may throw a wrench in the works. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Re: How Far do you ride?
Back in 2006 I rode 5000 miles in 28 days. From New Hampshire tru NY across Ontario then down to Daytona and back up the coast. My longest day that trip was from Va beach to just north of Boston, 600 miles in 11ish hours. Last May I rode out to north of San Francisco from Salt Lake City. On the way back I went from Yosemite back to SLC in 14 hours 775 miles..Heres a photo of my FZR before I left for Florida back in 06.....

Re: How Far do you ride?
Which way did you go through Ontario? I'm assuming you came through Montreal, then West to Toronto, London, Windsor?
Sounds like a fun ride. I hope I can pull something like that off in the future..

I spent my first night in Niagara Falls (Canada side) then lost my master link and chain out side of Hamilton got towed back to Hamilton fixed my bike and had a camp site waiting at Rondeau provincial park but stayed in Chatham with "Chatham" from FZRArchives..After a loooong night of drinking I left for Detroit and Fort Wayne Indiana half the ride in 50 degree rain....

Re: How Far do you ride?
cool, that was more of what I was looking at doing, and the riding style I'm used to. The sprocket I have on it now is one tooth higher when I did the 520 conversion, so I might have to change that back (I need a new chain anyway) if I'm looking at doing some touring. I'm just a little apprehensive doing it on a 600, but I remember that a 600 used to be a pretty big bike years ago.......
The same friend I spoke of has a Honda Blackbird he rode frm Iowa to the left coast and back three years ago and said it really only bothered his wrists a little.
If I take it, I'll be looking at riding about 3500 miles in 10 days or so. Not a killer endurance ride, but not exactly parking it by the curb and posing either.

Re: How Far do you ride?
I did 170 miles around western PA yesterday. It was a perfect day and I actually got far enough out into the boonies that I was able to really open it up for miles at a time for once. I have Corbin seat and it's best money I've spent on the bike. If I were ever going to do any serious distance, especially for days on end, I'd need to get the clip ons up and back. My back and shoulders (both my rotator cuffs are blown out) are so stiff that I couldn't I ride to work today, even though I really wanted to.
Re: How Far do you ride?
I normally do about 30-40 miles a day. About a month ago I did a 2000 mile trip in a week. 500 miles in one day was pretty killer. It's certainly not the best bike to tour on, but it is doable.
