Header compatability
does anyone know if other models headers with valves fit the fzr? I'm having a hell of a time below 3k and really need an exup valve. I'm on my second fzr now without the valve and this time I'm doing it right and trying to source the valve but can't find any decent headers with valves or even just the valve and its bits.
I was thinking of trying to get a yzf750 valve but it seems harder to find than the bloody fzr.

A fellow Uk member refurbishes and sells 1K systems for a sensible price.

Re: Header compatability
Hi, I'm just in the process of doing a set at present
They're in as good if not better condition as the ones I listed previously. This is the last set of FZR headers I have at the moment and the last of my valve parts
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152201625559
The early R1 valves (not headers) will fit but need approx 4mm removing off the end of the far shaft. The cover plates, pulleys, cable brackets are all interchangeable

Re: Header compatability
Wow those look like some seriously nice headers there, I would feel bad putting them on my bike, especially coming into winter.
im on a tight budget so I might try get an early r1 valve and parts and get 4mm machined off the end, I need a quick fix before the ice and snow comes God knows how I would manage to control the bucking on the ice.
Thanks for the quick replys you guys rock.

Just seen this... It's a fit too. Cable brackets are £8 plus post from Fowlers in Bristol

You the man stig cheers.
Re: Header compatability
I've managed to find an old thunderace exhaust with valve for pretty cheap the exhaust is garbage but the valve is gold. Cheers for all the help I would have never of know a thunderace valve would fit.
Re: Header compatability
Glad you got sorted. The headers on the ace are mild steel as opposed to stainless on the 1000 Exup. Hence the ace headers tend to rot out quick
Re: Header compatability
Well that all fell through pretty quickly, the guy decided he wanted a load more money for it . But luckily enough I found a header with valve cover and cables for a 98 R1 so I think I will just get that instead and get someone to mill 4mm of the end. Do you think the cables would fit or are they going to be different nibs on the end?
Re: Header compatability
The pulley wheels are interchangeable coz they're the same part number so the exhaust end of the cables are the same. Not seen the R1 servo pulley but it's probably the same fitting. Only issue will be the cable length. Hopefully they'll be long enough
I have some 4xv/5jj cables for sale on eBay at present. I can measure their length if it helps
As for milling the end of the valve..... Hacksaw or angle grinder will do the job easily

Re: Header compatability
Your too quick Mr stig.
I've just bought the lot for £55 so even if the cables don't fit it's a decent price for the valve, clip, and cover I think.
Il crack the diy milling machine out (angle grinder) and blast off 4mm. Do you know if the bush will need a shot of the grinder as well?
Don't worry about measuring the cable lengths I will just wait till they arrive and try them out.

Re: Header compatability
Just the far end shaft of the valve needs reducing. The bush should be ok from memory. If the bush is too long I have a spare. Don't ffs cut the original bush as they're graphite which goes mental if it's sparked.
Last bush I cut exploded

Re: Header compatability
Excellent, I defo won't be trying to cut the bush then. Il let you know if it doesn't fit.
Cheers for the help man.

Re: Header compatability
Bushes such as this are very easily worked with 180 abrasive paper on a flat surface.
Support the inner with an appropriate sized drill shank to prevent crushing.
A used bush is particularly fragile due to heat exposure...when new they are much more ductile.

Re: Header compatability
I've bought a length of phozie bronze for the lathe. Much cheaper than buying Yam bushes and should last the distance
