Another stator thread. 20v with 3 stators?

Post by tenchu »

I just picked up a 95 fzr600 and am trying to fix it up. The bike was dropped on the left side and had damage to the stator assy, so I purchased a used stator, cover, and flywheel. The used stator was only putting out 20v so I tried the original stator, 20v again. I bought a brand new stator assy, and now I'm still only getting 20v. (Checking leg to leg at the 3 pin plug coming off the stator.

Any ideas?

you have the terminal block with the white (AC) stator pigtail unplugged from the bike's wiring, right?

Checking across the three white wires, as pairs...call the first white wire "A", the second "B", the third "C"...test A-B, A-C, and B-C

Engine running at 3k rpm?

And your meter on the ACvoltage scale?

It's very improbable that all three have a failure that similar....they (stators) are usually a work/don't work device...there's no middle ground.

Yes, main 3 pin plug unplugged (testing closest to stator). Multimeter on AC, checked all 3 leg pairs, also checked at rectangle plug going into regulator, same reading. Checked at idle and at 3k, both the same.

DC voltage at battery doesn't increase when running, which is what got me digging

Okay, so three stators, and a different flywheel. And all underperform?

Is the crank bent? this would increase the air gap between the flywheel's magnets on one half of the rotation while decreasing it on the other.

Since we have inductive excitance of the stator coil by the permanent magnets in the flywheel-this may be an issue.

Regardless, this is an odd situation you have..keep us posted.

Have you checked your multimeter against something known-like your house current?
