90-91 FZ 750 rear tyre

Post by Hangtight »

Hi all,

This year I'm resolved to get my poor neglected FZ750 back on the road. A new pair of tyres would seem to be a good idea as it's been sitting on the existing ones for 4 years. I want to use a more modern tyre, but the only 18" rear fitment I can find is 160/60 18. Currently it's sitting on a 150/70. Is the 160 too big, or will it handle poorly?
Looking forward to responses, but in the meantime I'll be trawling through endless fitment lists! :headscratch:

What size is the rim? 3.5x18, 4.0x18, 4.5x18, 5.0x18?

A 3.5 maxes out with a 150
A 4.0 maxes out with a 160
A 4.5 & 5.0 should be very comfortable taking a 160 - 170

But the question of "too big" and therefore creating "poor handling" is arbitrary and should be left up to you and you alone. The FZR600 was designed for a 130 / 140 tire. I have a 180 on mine and love it. But some people would disagree.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....
