fzr 750 to buy or not to buy

Hi Guys,
Noob
I'm new to this site on account of me coming across this FZR 750.

Can anyone help...I've been offered a FZR 750 1988 for about £1500 (the exhaust is not original) and was wondering what they are like as bikes? I'm looking for a modern classic, but there doesn't seem to be many about, and most sites point you towards a gsxr 750 early model.

Yes i know its not a fazer but it's a close enough relative and i really need some pointers :headscratch:

Can you let me know whether they are particularly reliable, perform well and what I should look out for?

& does that make it a reasonable buy for a modern classic. Can you let me know what i should look out for when going to check it out?

Attached is the link to the advert, so you can use your own judgement.

Is the polished frame an indication that it's been down the road on its own? I've read some comments that the engine is the strongest so obviously don't want to buy it if it's going to blow up on me. :duh:

Appreciate your help

Andy

Welcome Andy.

FZR750 are very rare since there weren't many available - especially here in the states. Personally I would kill for a 750 that nice.

You'll have to rely on others here that might have a 750 or that have owned them in the past.

That's great example of one. As stated, they are really rare. If it's in good nick I say grab it. A good amount of parts will swap from the 1000 to it. Good bikes from what I've read.

I have yet to hear anything negative about the 750

they seem like great bikes, we have a subtopic on here devoted to 750's, check it out you won't see many problems reported

They were rare when new as early ones weren't a big seller, and later versions were homologation models, and they're virtually extinct today.

That one looks a beaut and seems worthy of preservastion, and maybe a few mods in keeping with the character of the bike at most.

it would be shame to tear apart one that appears to be in such good shape, esp after 200KM
