Fuel pump compatibility

I was told from a few sources elsewhere that the fuel pumps for the 750 and 1000 were the same. Is this true? I had a spare come with my 750 when I bought it back in '14, and it looked very much identical to the one on the bike, but the inlets/outlets were smaller. Also, the fuel line from the pump to the carbs seemed to be sliced at the end to fit over the outlet part of the pump, which makes me think somewhere down the line a larger pump was fitted. Fast forward a few years, I ended up buying another pump (needed a relay instead), and since I was I was made aware of the compatibility, and the fact I couldn't find a 750 pump, I bought the 1000... and the inlet/outlets are larger....
