well in 1981 yamaha was forced to introduce a standardized 17 digit vin coding, and all engine codes , even the earliest yamaha's had a 9 to 12 digit engine code and are as follows

first three are the type/model, and the rest are the serial number which will tell yamaha only when, where, and at what time of year it was made. So they can issue recall notices to certain bikes produced at certain assembly plants...etc. Even the earliest yamaha bikes had an engine code of atleast 9 digits or more. So you seem to be missing some, or alot.........I have the 17 digit vin breakdown if you want it, just let me know. :cheers:

JYA = Country manufacturer Identifier =Japan-yamaha
2NK00 = Vehicle atributes..=Identifies vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc.
3 = Check Digit
H = Model Year
A = Plant Code
000 = Manufacturer Identifier
209 = Sequential Number

There were two different models UK/100 BHP And the US/120 BHP version. Based on what you have in the vin numbers Id say its the last one of production that year, cant say for fact, being that only 200 were imported, but id say yours is a good example as to why this 200 number is false. the numbers I have run check out as a 1987 fzr 750 genesis, and says the same in all I look up on the numbers alone. With not knowing the accurate total numbers imported,Think its safe to say yours is one of the verry last of production for that paticular plant in japan, if not the actual last one. Many others on here are going to argue with this statement, but the numbers do not lie!! I have not heard of one making it to the states that was a mis-stamped VIN. So despite what anyone else says Id say the numbers do not lie and yours may verry well be the last on that year...Congrats man!! its a rare one in any sense, and hold on to it!! lol :nopic

From what I remember back in the olden days is that manufacturers had to import a minimum 200 bikes to be able to use that bike for AMA Superbike Racing. Yamaha advertised 200 but they may have imported 209.

This is also assuming the US got the first set of the model, I'm not sure what vin system other countries use.

You gotta figure that a couple of them at least were retained by the company as test mules/beds.

I know for a fact that they will ALWAYS keep one unit of every identifier/run as what they call an 'exemplar'. I know this because the company I work for often contracts with a guy will does nothing but analysis and expert testimony on behalf of the japanese big four and they will on occasion supply him with an exemplar..you ought to see the guy's storage barns-they'll make you drooooll.

Interesting because mine is 2NK-000218. So perhaps mine is one of the last ones built for 1987

If you look at ftp://ftp.nhtsa.dot.gov/MfrMail/01-22-N11B-3262.pdf it will say that production numbers start at 000101 for 2NK models which are FZR750RT

I'm not sure about the total number of the FZR750RT bikes imprted to the USA in 1987. (101 to 200 +?)

I can vouch for number 101 being in the USA now.
