just a quickie
Do you have to do the R6 tail swap in order to do the tank swap, or is it vice versa? I want to have a metal tank because my tank cover is cracked from my left clip-on smacking into it ever so often (the restrictor on the neck broke somewhat in my Feb accident).
Thanks, for a country where nobody is allowed to mind his own business. Thanks, for a nation of finks.

Re: just a quickie
i think basically you need to swap out the tank IF you're doing the r6 tail. the seats from the r6 match up with the yzf tank much better than the fzr. as far as doing just the tank, i'm not entirely sure because i haven't done the swap, but i would think you can just do the tank. there might be some modification needed for the fzr seat, but i can't see that as being horribly different. if you decide to do it, let us know, i've been thinking about doing just the tank cuz i like metal tanks better. remember you have to run pod filters or cut down the airbox to make it fit too

Re: just a quickie
YZF tank swaps are hard -and just not worth it without the R6 tail in my opinion
a repaint and something softer on the barend is a good solution

to replace the lock stop is an easy weld back if it is the one on the frame tube (mine was buckled heated it & tacked it back on. If you mean the one on the triple tree you can drill and tap where the old one was and use a bolt (have to do that sometimes on specials )
The fix will save you getting a broken thumb...... (do not ask how I know !!!)

You can change the tank but it would be best to do the tail and all along with it. The tank is not that difficult in my opinion.
Re: just a quickie
On mine, I was just going to do the tail swap, but I really did not like the way the stock FZR seat sat on the R6 tail, so I got the R6 seat, then I did not like the way the Stock R6 seat worked with the ugly plastic tank cover, so I got a yzf tank. One thing leads to another. I would not have been happy with the bike if I did not do the tank/seat/tail swap all together.

Re: just a quickie
come to think of it you'll still hit your hand/fingers with a yzf tank, actually it may be a little worse
fix the problem at the source where george suggested

It's the lock stop on the frame tube (I believe, here is a picture).
I don't have the piece that broke off. Am I going to have to take the whole front end off for this, or is there an easier way? I talked to my uncle (a fabricating semi-genius) about it and he recommended just grinding down a piece of metal to about the same shape and size of what I need and then JB Welding it. I'm just wary that it might not hold...

sorry I missed the continuation of this thread. BUMPing it got my attention :-}
Yes that bit is on the frame.
no JB weld will be unlikely to hold it
Take off the front fairing & lights, remove the battery & CDI and have a pal weld on a new piece ( the high frequency of stick welding/ will mess with both those items)

or
apply heat and bend the old piece down

DO NOT bend without heat because you will fatigue the metal & it will snap right off !!
When applying the heat use a sharply focussed flame BECAUSE you can set fire to the seal on the bottom off the triple tree.
I personally would heat from the main frame side rather than from in front keeping the flame well away from anything that just may catch fire (air box etc)
