what type of oil should i use?

so i just got my new 1990 fzr 600, ive drained the oil, replaced the oil filter- and now to refill the fluids! what type/weight oil should i use. idk what the previous owner used- he said he doesnt remember. if it makes a difference, i live in louisiana where its hot and humid. any suggestions?

I guess it depends on preference. I use Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 synthetic in mine. If you do some searching you'll find a lot of motorcyclist are using it cause it's cheap for synthetic but just as good as the more expensive ones. It also is JASO MA certification. JASO MA is the certification for oil for use in motorcycles with wet clutches. It's around 19 to 22 dollars for a gallon of synthetic. Since I switched to synthetic my bike shifts smooth as butter ,seems to run better all around and even the clutch feels much more responsive.

alright, so 5w-40 is a good all around weight as well? and can i just buy it at walmart?

I'm by far no expert but I've had great results with it personally. Like I said I had done several hours of research and lots of motorcyclist raving about it. Yes , You can get this at Walmart and they should have it in stock at your local walmart.

Got me that oil. Now to fill er up. And to take apart my carbs and give them a good cleaning.
