NEED HELP!!! NO SECOND GEAR!!!! 1994 fzr600

i purchased a 1994 fzr 600 and it will not shift into second gear. i was told it was shifter forks so i went out and bought them. was getting ready to install them and one of my buddies told me that if the shifter forks are out then some of ur gears are bad? idk if that is true but if it is i found a internal transmission rebuild kit gears shift shaft etc but its from a 1993 fzr 600 will that fit?? please help
