I have owned a few bikes over the years. My first was a 1970 Triumph 650 Tiger that I restored and rode/loved until I joined the Army and sold it back in 1985.
I briefly owned a 1974 Yamaha DT250 Enduro in lieu of cash for some work I did for a friend.
My next bike was a 1988 Kawasaki Ninja 600 that I bought when I was stationed at Fort Ord, CA. I really enjoyed that bike. My friends and I would go on Sunday breakfast runs to the mountains near Santa Cruz, tearing-ass up Highway 9 to Alice's Restaurant (not of the Arlo Guthrie fame). I met more ladies when I owned that bike than I could shake a stick at, and I am a serious stick-shaking s.o.b. That love affair was cut tragically short when I let a friend ride my bike. After half a block he plowed right into a parked car resulting in a spectacular explosion of black plastic and an awe-inspiring Superman impression. To add insult to injury, he stood up, removed my $400 Shoei helmet and, apparently in disgust, spiked it like a game-winning-touchdown football. All I could do was fall to my knees and sob like a little girl with a skinned knee. I will NEVER let ANYONE ride a bike of mine again...EVER! That was 1989.
I have always been a fan of the early repli-racers like the first generation GSXRs, ZX-7s, and especially the FZRs. I have wanted one since the first time I saw one in 1990. So after 23 years without a bike, I set out to find one.
I acquired my '93 FZR600 back in November in trade for a sweet AR-15 rifle I built. Here are a couple of photos of it as it looked when I got it:

Obviously been down on it's right side...

Apparently it's also been down on it's left at some point, too...

I took each member of the family for a quick ride around the block before I parked it and started the teardown.
Some of the things I observed from the beginning were;
tires were shot
leaked oil like a sieve
clutch slipped pretty badly
front end had ZERO suspension ability
ran extremely rich
headlight hi/lo switch was missing and was hard-wired to high beam only
windscreen was painted (poorly) black
and the obvious cosmetic issues.
Still, I am extremely, EXTREMELY happy to finally have a bike in the stable again.
Progress has been painfully (literally) slow as I have had to endure two back surgeries, the first of which resulted in an infection in my spine and required the second surgery and two months of I.V. antibiotics. While performing the second surgery, the doctor nicked my spinal cord and caused a leakage of spinal fluid. Talk about agonizing! I am still healing, but I work on the bike as I can and I WILL ride it if it kills me. That also explains why I have waited until now to get this thread off the ground.
I have lots of photos, and will post them as I get them uploaded and resized. Here are a few of the teardown:

Note the tail piece.

Using a soldering iron and some scrap ABS I have lying around, I filled in the tail light opening and I am trying to give it a shape that I feel looks more appealing. I will be using some Custom Dynamics Knight Rider Non-Sequential LED Light Bars to try and give it an updated YZF750 look.

Time will tell.

What a pretty purple!

Nekkid frame
I have since had the frame, swingarm, wheels, fork legs and other assorted bits blasted and powder coated, as well as having purchased a bunch of powder coated parts and assorted stuff from Nate (aka ThatKid, GREAT guy!) I will post "as it sits" pics as soon as I can.
