sounds like its runnin rich and ya carbs need balancing, new air filter too to make sure the right air/fuel mix is getting through. also in addition i got a bit of black smoke when i reved it hard untill i repacked my end can. the old wadding in the end can was saturated with soot, oil, and god knows how many years worth of other shite. the minute i repacked it the black shite stopped!!

How big is a plume of black smoke? It differs for everybody. If it won't start after the plume, that's not a good sign. Was it jet black or more dark gray? Was there any unusual noise with the smoke, or just a plume and the engine stopped as though you turned it off, or did something go bang.

Mod edit - comments not helping, and not warranted by the conversation so far. DonTZ125

OK so what plugs did you install? I do however believe my comment was valid, since so little info has been supplied, yet.........

Usually the last thing you did is the first thing to check, it is in my book :whistle

Just so everyone knows - the reason cowboi said "Might wanna pull the plugs and check them."

is..... yes, the condition of them brand new or not tell's you alot of whats going on in each cylinder.

imo the first reply was exactly what i would have done on a customers bike (regardless of what the customer said, otherwise he would take his bike home). Then I would make sure the plugs the customer had installed were of the correct heat range.

The OP's reply to the first post

well... you can read it.

but cowboi  had the right idea and was blatantly shunned!

hi after checking the plugs and air filter do a compression test on each cylinder it should be between 9.99 bar and 11.29 bar..(145 psi and 164 psi).fzrs are prone to valve problems..if this is ok its your carbs...

I installed NGK cr9's.

the bike ran the next day perfectly. I have no tools to check the psi, but I know the previous owner was not big on maintenance.. It probably needs a valve job.

do you all know a good place to buy somewhat cheap carb sync tools? my fzr manual is still on the way.. so far I have been doing the best as I can with the help of this forum haha.
