93 fizzer fork spring question

hey guys my fork spring question i have is has anyone tried progressive suspensions progressive spring kit p/n 11-1129 looks like they only have one choice spring rate looks like .63kg so its alittle stiffer than the stock springs of around .43kg as listed on the race tech website seeing as im not driving like a bloody maniac anymore and have a good commute on the highway id like the ride to be alot better than stock im going to run 20w fork oil in them like i did with the stock springs im really trying to get rid of the severe brake dive with the fizzer or would u guys recommend some fork springs from racetech i weigh around 185lbs so according to rt i should have an .80 or .84kg spring up front not really looking into getting the gv emulators seeing as i have so much to do on it this year im trying to keep it in a budget let me know what u think the good the bad and the ugly thanks again

burns, FWIWI have followed the Racetech's spring guide suggestion application for my FZR and another bike. So far Racetech seems to be reasonable with its suggestion/recomendation based on weight and riding styles. I as well passed on the emulators on my FZR and just opted for stiffer springs and a fork oil weight change. It was a marked improvement in my case and I'm sure if I ever do the emulators they would enhance dampening even further.

I'm also looking into the progressive suspension cause it's 40-50$ cheaper than the race tech and I'm sure my meager skills aren't pushing the bounds of even 20 year old tech

well guess ill give them a try and see what happens i sent progressive suspension an email and they say these springs can be dialed in im guessing with spacers or something guess ill find out ebay here i come

Guys,
you would be better off buying non-progressive wound springs for the FZR. I bought a set originally and they were a waste of time binned them & went with straight wound 0.85 springs and fitted the emulators later.
The emulators where the best value for money mod on the bike.

......... Here's a few periods to sprinkle into your post.
My advice is to get straight rate springs and not progressive. They provide a more consistent feel and your forks will be way easier to dial in.

I found a complete front end on cl Los Angeles for 250, it has race tech springs, i think they're like .85, I'll let u know
(gettin the whole front end cause my rotors are warped on vader)

ok so then race tech it is i guess .85 springs just waiting for some cash to make itself available i pulled the rusty swinger of the old frame tonight and started sandblasting it but i ran out of blasting shit went to harbor freight and bought some more gonna get it finished up and painted and then order the r6 rear shock with dog bones off one of the members here and then to address the frontend and yank the engine and if all goes well be ready to ride before its nice out

ok so i forked out the 105 bucks for the race tech .90kg springs. another 46 bucks for the leak proof promoly seals and wipers tonight. so now my next question is what weight oil should i use in the forks? i ran 20w last year with the stock springs and it nosedived bad when using the front breaks.now with the stiffer springs do i need the 20w or should i use something like a 15w any advice would be great seeing as i got the bike down to frame,engine and wheels right now.just waiting for some time to get the engine out to start the prep for paint.yippee

I went with the 20w on the rebuild of mine with the .95 springs.

Hi,
I seem to remember a discussion re th e use of non OEM fork seals and there were numer ous complaints of the "leakproofs" being any thing but leak proof straight out the pack !
As for weight of oil temperature and your weight would be two factors to consider.
I weigh in at 180 and the ambient temp here is 80+ and I used 15 wt oil back in last "summer" Y -G used 12.5 wt in his forks but the UK is a lot colder and he is about the same weight as I am.

I dont know how it helped the nosediving yet b/c ive still got the carbs to sort out, but it made a serious difference just sitting on the thing, the sag felt soooo much stiffer (put a gsxr750 shock on the back tho too...)
Its usually 80+ for me here in san diego

temps here in ct are anywhere from 65 to 100 degrees.i have oem seals in the forks now and they leak bad. forks in good condition, maybe i messed up installing them. im just not sure, hoping maybe the leakproof seals will make the difference. i wont know until i tear it apart again ill give the 15w a try and see what happens thanx

hey guys got parts in today. racetech .90kg springs and my new fork seals. i breezed through the directions for the springs and by the looks of it setting them up as far as sag looks to be a pain in the ass. am i overthinking this or is it a lot simpler then the directions make it seem to be?
