Hi need some advise.
I have a 1989 FZR400RR 3TJ-1, was wondering if the FZR600 3TJ engine would go into the 400 frame OK. They look similar.
Cheers Rusty.

did they do a 600 3tj? i know they did a 60003he, and 4jh and the thundercat 4tv. you can fit a 600 4jh or 4tv lump in but you will need adapeter plates because of the engine height and the need to move the mounting points. (these are available on ebay uk) and you will probably need to shave some off either the engine mount on the frame, or the engine casing itself as the bolts are not readily available as countersunk items (well from what i can gather from those that have done it over here) so you need to make room for them. sprockets etc. should all line up ok as they share the same bottom casings i believe.

They must have. I am looking at buying one, and the photos the guy has sent, looks identical as the 400. Frame is the same, wheels are the same size, taillights, headlights all look the same, he says its stamped 3TJ on the steering head, so must be.
The 400 i have i use as a race bike, so looking to buy the 600 and use the motor, and have the rest of it as a spare parts department.
Thanks Russ

Are you sure they 600 conversion hasn't just been done on the bike your looking at? The 3tj model number is only for the 400 as far as im aware.

3TJ is definately a 400 from the factory. If he's saying its a 600 then its been played around with (which is *not* necessarily a bad thing

). The 4JH engine goes straight in, the 4TV goes straight in but needs work to line up the sprockets.
Because the 600 cylinders are taller a bracket has to be fitted between the cylinders and frame mount to connect them, the frame has to be ground down on one side to allow this bracket to be physically fitted:

This is what I will be doing to mine eventually.

Hi Guys, Thanks for your replies. Yes it seems from what the seller is telling me its a 3TJ 400 frame with a 600 engine in it. He says it looks like its been factory done as he cant see that anyone has tampered with it, so looks like a certain model 600 engine bolts straight in. Going to get a mate of mine to have a better look.
Cheers.

it's possible that its a 400 lower with 600 crank etc, making it something like a 540cc.

Its definatly a 600cc Yamaha engine fitted in there. Must be the 4JH engine SouthendChris was talking about.
