ok this is food for thought . this morning on the way to work i noticed my tach showing only 1500 rpm which should have been about 4500-5000 , a mile up the road was my turn so i thought id check it there but wait no turn signals, pulled over and found that the tach , turns , break light , neutral light and headlight wasn't working . after looking at the fuses it was the signal fuse but why would the tach, headlights and neutral light not work?
just wondering if this has happened to others and not understanding cause the headlight is on a separate fuse and as for the neutral and tach im clueless.
thanks in advance

Pull apart the left hand switch. The blue wire (or blue/white) is known for working itself loose. If memory serves it's the head light wire. That then will ground itself to the clip-on and them cause similar to what you describe. I had that happen twice when I had my old 600. Of course, resoldering the wire back corrects all of this.

Same symptoms, differnt cause. Mine ended up being one of the rear turn indicators (after market) bulb socket and bare wire managed to short the fuse out. Follow the wiring diagram and start eliminating components until yo find your source(s).

Same problem here. I read sweekster's post and since the PO of my bike had "solved" a bad hi-lo switch by connecting all the headlight wires together in the left control, it seemed like I had found the answer. I completely removed the left control since I am replacing it anyway and the result was that the tach needle swings higher, but not past 3k. I apparently have some other issues to sort out.

i have a lil of the same issue. my left turn signal works only when it wants. i have to pull it apart and spray a lil wd40 on it and my headlights quit working one day. i pulled the bulbs to find that i had a blown high beam replaced the bulb and they work now.
