Made the classic mistake of wrestling with lining up the tank cover/Allen bolts without the cap on, and you guessed it....bolt right in the tank. Noob

After buying one of those grabber tools (needed it anyway), I snaked it out of there. But while peeking inside, I found this:

I'm assuming it is a petcock filter - but I can't seem to find it on the parts fiche. Looks like I will have to remove the tank (again!) and drain it. Replace this thing from the underside. Bummer!

You need it to use the reserve on the Tank

without it you will use up the reserve gas

there are two on the 400, not sure if it is the samefor 600's the longer one is for when you are using 'normal' fuel tank, and the shorter attaches to the reserve part of the fuel tap. once the fuel drops below the height of the taller one, you need to turn to reserve. make sure you put them on the correct way round or you'll be using reserve all of the time!

This was definitely the longer of the two - the one on the right if you're looking in from the left side of the bike.

I'll get it straight when I remove the petcock.

Thanks!

im glad some one posted that because the last time i pulled my tank off i saw that in side it and i havnt had a chance to pull it back out. and ly low fuel light doesn't work either. the only thing that saves me is i know i get about 189 and i am completly out of fuel. that explains why my reserve never works when i turn it to it.

my 95 is suposed to there is a light on the temp gauge that i was told was my low fuel light from the p.o. of the bike. but i ran out of gas at 189 not realizing how far i had rode on my first week of having it and then again trying to make it to the gas station at 187 and was watching for the low fuel light but never saw it. but then again that might be a high temp light.

The 3HE / 3HH FZR600 did not have a fuel light. The 4JH YZF600 sold in the UK as the FZR600R had a fuel light.

thats a good question i want to add a level gauge so that it gives me a more accurate reading instead of going off of miles or visual.
