Im going with a different approach to a tach on my bike, i dont like the digital ones as much, so i got to thinking why not use a car tach? i got to reading on the fzr's pulse signal and realized that i cant just wrap the lead from the tach around the spark plug like on a car. My question for everyone is how can i make a tach meant for a 4,6,8 cylinder vehicle read correctly on my bike?

I want to mount my tach like this, or somewhat like it on the side of the bike. i dont use the tach much, unless im getting into the upper rpms.

If the tach in question is meant to be used with a 4-cyl wasted spark system, it will work. If the tach in question is meant to be used with an 8-cyl sequential ignition, it will work.
What about mounting an FZR tach down there?

You should be able to connect it to the pulse wire going to the coils I think its the orange wire or the Green/Yellow wire. You probably should use a diode there to protect it.
Someone else please chime in.
As far as mounting it, as long as you can see it , it should be ok.

If it wasn't for messing up my stock cluster I would mount it down there, but I've found a decent 5 inch universal car tach that goes to 11k for around 40 bucks. And all the specs for the tach says its just a universal 4,6,8 cylinder. It's called an x-tune carbon fiber tach and can be found at racer-union.com
