in need of help

First off I want to say hello to everyone and thank you for any help I get.

I have a 92 FZR600 cali and I can't get it to run.

The bike ran great then one day I went to fire it up after it sat for a few weeks. When I turn it on I hear the fuel pump click and the CDI box clicks as well. The bike has no spark so i changed the plugs but still no spark. I had it fire it up once but now nothing. I have cranked the bike a lot and sometimes I smell fuel some times i don't. Also the headlight and cluster sometimes wont turn on but the taillight always is on when the key is on but stepping on the brake wont turn on the brake light. I don't know if this is all one problem or if they are diff. ones.

thank you
john

The no spark situation has me clueless. I would start by checking the fuses then the coils. There is a way to check the coils with a DMM doing a resistance test but I dont know where that info is. If they check out good then I would say that your CDI is fried.

For the lights issue crack open the right hand controls and clean the start switch. That gets filled up with dirt and gunk there, it has some pads that transfers over power for the lights and starting circuit. as well as the spring and a small ball bearing.

bikes dont just go bad from sitting, and the TCI box should not click since its all solid state circuitry, start by making sure the battery is fully charged and in good condition cus if there is less than 10.5 volts they wont fire

The clicking box is your main relay assembly; if that little relay is chattering, your battery is flat, or you have a MASSIVE voltage drop somewhere = seriously dirty / corroded contacts. The fuel pump chattering is a good sign; it means the TCI (NOT CDI!!) isn't completely destroyed, but you may still have burned coil driver transistors.

The lights sometime not coming on = the start button. It's a double-pole / double throw switch; it 'breaks' the headlight circuit just before it 'makes' the starter circuit, giving max volts to the ignition and starter. The tail light should always be on with the switch, but the brake light not coming on means either the bulb brake filament is burned out (happens), or the brake switch is damaged / dirty / out of adjustment (last one happens a lot, easy fix), or a wire has been unplugged (happens, often while troubleshooting lights not coming on :grinnod: ).
