Headlights not working.

While on a short road trip it was brought to my attention that my headlights weren't working.

Bulbs are ok, fuses are ok.

Took to the dealership and they said the headlights run to the start switch, and that switch was bad.

switch $228.29, 2 hours labor @ 70$ an hour.

My manual doesn't show the headlight electricals even going to the start switch...

Also seems like a lot for the switch -.-;

Any ideas / suggestions?

ALSO, while doing my own investigating there were two blue wires (one from each headlamp) that crossed infront of the bike that were NOT connected to anything. Both plugs looked to be female though. possible problem/solution? didn't just want to go around pluggnig things in....

anyway, thanks for your help!

They will go to the start switch. Some people have the issue with the start switch being stuck in just enough after pressing it to start the bike up that the lights will stay off. You'll notice while you're cranking your lights shut off.

Hi drowningxinxair, this is a very common problem on the FZR, nothing that a few minutes with a soldering iron and or electrical cleaner (aerosol) won't solve , however it could be a fault in the left hand switch gear, a blue/black wire can become unsoldered on either switch. Do yourself a favour open the switch (take a photo to help you with reassembly) and fix it for nothing.

HTH.

Those prices seem pretty standard as far as OEM goes, but I don't think you'll find many people on these forums willing to pay that much, and will find a fix themselves with some help from others on here.

Check ebay for used switches. You may find some there...
