RPM gauge.

I have searched, but maybe I don't know what to search for. My issue is my RPM gauge is not right. It dances all over the range. While going 55-65 mph, its reading between 2k and 10k. I am not sure how to fix it. Any ideas?

If your bike is running fine then I would suspect the gauge. You can confirm by buying a cheap tach from autozone, wiring it in and seeing if it misbehaves, then return it when you're done. Stock tach should read off the neg terminal on one of the coils. I would Chase down the wiring and see if something is loose and breaking connection due to vibration or wind. If that's not it I would guess the spring in your gauge is shot. Try searching tach problems instead of rpm gauge.

For the 600s, only the '89 'W' model drove the tach off the 2-3 coil negative. The '90+ bikes had a dedicated signal wire coming off the TCI.

That said, I completely agree with CSC's troubleshooting thoughts of loose connections / frayed or broken wire. Check the screw terminals on the back of the gauge cluster first; if any of the 3 wires going to the tach have intermittent contact, then it will bounce all over the place.

I had the guage off a while back. While it was off I wire brushed the connectors, and put them back with some die electric grease. I guess I just need to chase wires. I replaced the VR thinking that might be the problem. No luck.

Replacing the VRR does not in and of itself solve anything. It prevents further damage, but doesn't un-fry any components that took a high-voltage hit. If you've had a bad VRR, you need to go in and repair or replace anything that got killed.

I think I am just going to live with it until winter when I pull the bike apart.
