I was looking at the wiki. So the Bridgestone BT-014's are the replacements for a 140/70-18" rear tire? I'm asking because when I googled bridgestone and 140/70-18 it shows a Bridgestone BT-45. Or maybe I bought the bike with the wrong size tire on it. Idk. I have a 97' 600. Should I get the BT-014 rear tire?

I do believe you'll have to go with the 150/60ZR18 BT-014. Not even sure that they still produce the tire.

To my knowledge, the BT-014 is more of a sportier tire and the BT-45 is a touring tire.

It looks like if I go any wider the tire would hit the bar that holds the rear break. Is going from a 140 to a 150 that big of a difference?

You can run a 150/60R18 with no issues. A 160 will begin to rub....

And, the BT-045 is( I believe) a bias ply, where the 014 is a radial.

I had three rear 014's then saw the (Avon AV56) light. They(the 014's )were okay, but a hard highway ride on a hot day would kill em.

I recently (about 3 months ago) bought 2 av56's and im very pleased with this tire.
They warm up quickly and provide plenty of traction, even in the rain i might add haha, and they seem to be doing great on the mileage maybe because theyre spourt touring tires, i dont know.

I bought them from amazon.com for 130 bucks each which isnt a bad deal.
I decided to go up a size and get the 150/70-18, the avons seems to run a little large which is perfect for the skinny fzr swingarm.
Anyway hope this helps with the tire choices! Good Luck

Are you kidding? RR is practically the spokesperson for Avon tires.

The good news is that they still make tires for the 18" rim whereas a lot of other companies have already dropped that size.

I just ordered the AV56 150/70-18 rear tire. Now all I need is to find a place in Baltimore to put it on cheap. And hopefully Amazon ships it quick because the plug i put in my tire isn't gonna last long. Thanks for the help.

Be sure to check the local Track Day website. We had our tires changed/balanced by a local racer who purchased a No-Mar tire changer. It only cost $15 per rim. There might be someone in your area doing the same thing.

i just went through a Michelin 160/60 Pilot Road 2 in the first 10,000 miles of this summers trip, and am getting another one, and a Road 2 for the front too, this weekend in LA.

generally i was happy with it. and after 10k miles of hot summer riding, including a month in Texas and another month scootin' around the SW deserts, it still has tread to spare.

the 160/60 has clearance on the chain guard, so no rubbing issues, btw.
