Fuel pump hot wired.

I found my bike has a hotwired fuel pump. The hot lead is spliced off of the thermo switch. I ohm'd the line to the fuel pump and it ohms good. What reason would the PO hot wire the pump? Relay bad?

With it hot wired, the fuel pump "clicks" super fast when petcock is in off position, and clicks ~2 secs when in fuel on position.

thanks for the help!

that is also how my fuel pump is wired. never had a problem with the way it's wired since i purchased it. i also let the ignition set to ON only when i need to start the bike and when the bike runs, so i can avoid the pressure building up in the carbs.

it'll click like mad when the fuel is off because there is no fuel there to turn off the pressure switch when the carb is full. The fuel acts a a sort of damper so without it will be able to click faster! I had to do this on the race bike but put an inline fuse there just incase as well as an on/off switch so that i could stop it if i needed to! the wires to my pump were rubbish and had intermittent power so it was the easiest thing to do!
