My Bike Eats Oil

Hey Guys,
So basically I go throughout about a quart of oil every 3 or 4 weeks. Maybe less, I guess it depends. Anyway I was wondering why it's eats through oil that quick? Could it be gaskets or rings or what?
One more question here. My idle seems to be fluctuating much more recently then it has in the past. I've slowly been having to turn up my idle every now and then or my bike dies. In thinking maybe a carb problem but I just cleaned then about a week ago :/
Any help is appreciated! Thanks Guys.

what oil are you running? mine had the same problem until I switched to straight Rotella 30w and it's almost non existent now. It robs you of a little power but you have to add oil a significantly less amount of time.

If you're burning that much oil it's either the piston rings or valve seals.

No smoke whatsoever. That's what really gets me and makes it harder to tell what's up. I cleaned them yes but I have yet to sync them. Maybe that'd help out the idle a bunch. Where's the crank seal located? I'm not familiar with it. Hopefully it's not piston rings or valve seals but who knows when or if this engine has ever been rebuilt. So why does the rotella oil take away from the power? Thanks again

my only smokes some at the top of the rev range, the thicker 30w isn't going to let the engine spool up as quick as a thinner oil but lets less past the rings. As for the power difference, I'd say less difference in pick up than you get between an empty and full tank of gas affecting the bikes weight so negligible. Still plenty to keep you entertained.
