Need help ASAP.. regarding cams...

Hey guys.. I managed to find a set of .5 over rings on ebay and was in the process of tearing the motor down again to put the old jugs back in with the new rings.. The intake cam wouldn't come out properly then it finally did.. Unfortunately, the part where the timing mark is, well it broke of in the "quide" channel.... I can't use it anymore I would imagine for fears that while running the motor the cam would shift and cause another catastrophic failure.. I do have the cams from the 400 motor and was wondering if they'd work in the 600..
I went to Yamaha-motor.com an checked the part #'s from the factory.... they are:
400 cam - 3BF-12171-00-00 600cam - 3HE-12171-00-00
The only difference you can see.. Next I went to both service manuals. in one section, the measurements are identical, or at least extremely close.. But in another section, they are slightly different.. I can't afford another cam, I'm already VERY low on $$$ since leaving my last place of employment, but I've gotta get this bike up and running..
Can I use the cams from my 400 in the 600 motor?
Any help, insight would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks.
Brian
