92' FZR600 Keeps Blowing Main Fuse

Post by Tech7 »

Picked up 92 fzr600 couple weeks ago for 14,000, 31k on it, ran great for a week. Cranked on her on night and slowed for a corner, light dimmed, went out and bike stalled! Pushed her home and found that the main fuse was blown, put new one in and every time i turned the key 'bam' would just blow again.
Found an '07 r6 voltage reg on ebay just got it today followed some forum talk on how to wire it, got her wired up and the damn thing still is blowing fuses.
VERY FRUSTURATED! and dont know what to try next am very new at this, so ne help at all would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks

Hi,
advice from "oopnorth"

He needs to remove both of his Stop/Tail lamp bulbs & if he's in the States
(no location) he may have running lights in his front blinkers, if so remove
both front blinker bulbs. Then in case a PO has installed the wrong fuses in
the fuse box (should be Three 10 amp and One 20 amp fuses) pull them out
anyway. Then  report back.

So let us know how this works out
Y-Geo.

YG - he's talking about the 30A main fuse between the battery and the VRR; the signal bulbs head off on a tangent at the main switch, which is between the VRR and the main fuse. Also, I can't believe pulling those bulbs would make a difference - surely a 6W (or even 21W) would pop LONG before a 30A fuse!

Sorry Don but it has been my experience that if a VR is on the way out the bulbs (tail & running as soon as the key is turned ) can in fact blow as you say but in so doing cause a short in the tail circuit this is also true as some models particularly State side have permanently on running lights once you turn the key.

I realise this is not the most likely fault but it is the "odd ball" ones that catch you and can have you tearing your hair out
