I need some header wrap since my V&H Supersport exhaust will touch the lower right-side fairing and probably melt it.

What do I get? There are so many on eBay...

It's too bad you don't live close to me.. I could have my old man make up a protective covering for your headers ..

He helped design this stuff and it's incredible how much heat it withstands..

if you're going to wrap it get enough to re-wrap it later , if your bike sleeps outside the moisture gets trapped in the wrap and super speeds up the rusting process .

Summitracing sells the wrap. You would be better off having the header ceramic coated though.

i headers don't touch the fairings and i have the same as you.

I might have to do some tweaking then....

yeah i would check to see if somthing not bent, mines are like 1/2 away from my fairings towards the bottom of the bike and have never caused a problem. only problem with the super sport headers is they rust no matter how much you take care of them. i will be looking into chroming them or wraping them because i hate looking at rusty headers every 2 years after a paint job.

throw some pics up and ill tell ya if mine like that.

Do you still have the factory heat shield installed inside the fairing? If not Maier and I'm sure others sells the panels or tiles that are just a self-adhesive backed panel. I'm with the rest avoid wrapping it at all costs.

It will help, how much i am not sure. Ceramic is an insulator. It works well on my street/strip car, i can grab the headers 5 minutes after shutting it off.

Mine had wrap, it literally crumbled off and the pipe underneath is rusted pretty bad.

not entirely BUT ceramic preserves the pipe exterior from rusting particularly if you do wrap them.

A carbon steel pipe will rust about 50% faster with wrap. the alternative to ceramics is stainless ( the non magnetic kind ) steel

another alternative is to "tile" the fairing rather than the pipe ( I have in the past used silver foil backed loft insulation & heat proof tiles meant as welders heat shields for gas brazing copper pipes indoors to an in-situ installation for repairs. Nerd

I'm tellin you, the stuff in the link below will NOT rust your pipes underneath, you can literally hold a torch to the front side while holding the wrap on the backside and you won't feel the heat. This stuff is used on various mining, construction and heavy equipment around the world. LOL.. I know, I'm pushin it but I know it works.. Hell at one point while in NC at a conference, my old man was approached my either Brett Bodine or Jeff Bodine's crew to use it (can't remember which one of the 2 it was)..

First check to see if any or your brackets are tweaked, or if you can twek them slightly to move the fairings away. Then just cut some of this to fit and stick to your fairings. Dont the stock fairings come with this in it already? The FZR1000 fairings that came on my bike when I bought it had the same type stuff as does my YZF tank underside. I had to pull it all off for paint, so I need to pick up some of this stuff too.

My brackets were fine. The headers are off somehow. I just don't want to make them worse.

I have the aluminum backed stuff in there, but it's rubbing the edge of the fairing.

I'll look into that stuff Brian. A removeable shield would be nice. I also have my torch shield stuff from home depot that I used for soldering the copper pipes. I could always try that with some stainless cable ties.

which of all that lot on the page can we (outsiders) get in small quantities and which type do you (or your Dad ) recommend ,

Once i have firm type I can ask them if they have a UK outlet as this is very much of interest to me on some pipes on a research bike for having a better ( more stable )exhaust temperature for tuning the engine <BG>
