timing..someone help

This is starting to really piss me off. My haynes manual says NOTHING about how to line up the crank timing marks. I see the "t" mark and the line on the flywheel, but there are a lot of lines that look like they could be used to put the crank at TDC. And to make things worse, the repair manual on fzrarchives (love the site, not hating) has the crappiest pictures ever. They might as well not even be there. I had to print them out to be able to barely make out what it is showing. The haynes manual does show how to line up the cams, but what good is that if it doesn't show a way to line up the crank.

Anyone have pictures of the alignment marks on the crank. Or have a better copy of the factory repair manual section 4. Or personal pictures too I guess. Anything will do at this point.

Easier to see? Not really. Here is my description. Look at the front the engine. Look at oil filter. Above that is the motor mount bolts. Above that is a triangle piece that sticks out that does nothing. In between those is a thin line where the casing breaks apart. Follow that to the right (left is sitting on bike). You see that rectangle that does nothing you are lining up just below that. Which is also the line previously mentioned. Just under the bolt hole for the stator cover.

Edit. In this picture I am NOT lined up correctly. The bottom "L" is on the mark you need to be on.

The factory service manual that I downloaded from fzrarchives shows the flywheel from the rear of the bike looking forward. All I can make out is the shape on that one, so yours is waaaaay better than that one. But yours shows the flywheel from the front of the bike looking toward the rear, which is the opposite. Is this how your timing is lined up? And it runs good? If so I'll adjust mine like this then.

I haven't started mine since I tore the engine down yet. I will say this with the flywheel in this position cylinder 1 is at TDC I know cause i saw it. Another way to know is that your can rollers on cylinder 1 will be facing away from each other.

Just like figure one in this pic.

ok, I finished, they are in the same "time zone" now..lol. I realized something about the fzrarchives manual...the picture that you are supposed to align the crank by is upside down. Chapter 4 part 2, on page 18, the top left picture is upside down, so it looks like it is showing you to line it up looking at the back side of the crank, but it's upside down and it's showing me the same side of the crank that you showed me in your picture. I'll let someone know tomorrow, I have to get a new battery before I can start this puppy..

Hi,
I think you will find that this errata has been posted before and is in our WIKI <?> and certainly in posts here
