yo its me again, just had a couple questions, number one, do you really have to run premium in a bike? like mid grade wouldnt work? i live in fl and gas is already over 4 bucks a gallon, ( george i feel sorrry for you for the price of gas in the u.k. my wife is from there and she told me bout the gas). and the other question is, can i just use regular coolant? i know my questions are totally noobish but ive never owned a bike before, so id rather ask questions that brake something, know what im sayin?

Regular gas is fine. Its what the bike was built for in the 90's. I use mid grade because in MO its the same price. Just run cleaner ie seafoam through it every once in a while. In Florida I wouldn't use regular antifreeze. Look up water wetter or engine ice. Technically you can run distilled water but with stop and go traffic the bike will over heat. They require it if you ever go to a race day. .

The owners manual on my old 92 FZR 600 said to use no lower than 91 octane gas. Sames goes for my 1000. I've never used anything lower than that in any bike I've had. But that's just me. It's really subjective thing and depends on the bike. My advice would be to run the lower grades and see how it runs. It if runs fine them go with that. I run a 50/50 mix of regular coolant (the green stuff) and water and have no issues.

Sooo you're shooting down everything I said. Thanks Duane.

Jk. I second the lower octane and seeing how the bike runs. Spark knocking=bad. Haha.

nice i just had the carbs rebuilt( 60 dollars per carb!) so they are clean, i think ill try a little bit of mid grade next time i get gas, i forgot to mention that its stroked to a 699.. idk if that would require higher octane or not, its not boosted of anything, so ill just see what happends i suppose.

"stroked to a 699.."
That's a new one on me..never heard of an FZR6 being stroked that much. If true, then it most likely HAS raised your compression significantly. To the point that I would be amazed that it ran without spark knock on ANY pump fuel
Me, I run the lowest octane that DOESN'T knock..lower octane always get you the best power-that means I run 87 except on the stinky-hottest of summer days. The combustion chambers are so compact on a 6 and pretty damn close to fuel burning perfection that we get away with compression ratios that would kill other engines in short order.

i didnt stroke it, i got it that way. and judging from the guy i got it from, it seems believable. hes got 5 hondas that are just track monsters. such as his k24 super and turbo charged crx.. so if he says thats what it is then i kinda believe him

anyhow, so ur saying 87 octane would be ok? i just always thought that the higher the octane the better it would combust?

and how do you tell if you have spark knock? i hear a really fast sound that goes tap tap tap tap taptap tap..but the bike runs REALLY good, and the guy that works on it didnt say he had any concern about any kind of knock( powers house motorsports navarre fl).
the bike is carbs and a fuel pump, and the tapping sounds like it could be the pump clicking, or the secondary whatever you want to call it. it dusnt lag, stumble, idle weird or anything, it has awsome throttle response too.

Actually, it's the other way around - the higher the octane number, the SLOWER it combusts. The advantage to this of course is that it is also more resistant to detonation. High octane fuel does not in and of itself create power; instead, it allows the engine to be modified for greater power without detonating its brains out.
RR said a true fact - the lowest octane that doesn't detonate gives the best power and economy. Riding around on 94 when the engine wants 87 is money out the exhaust, and a weaker ride to boot.

i just dont want to fill up on 87 and have the bike run like crap, ill try mid grade i guess, im also getting aroung 35 mpg too, that sucks. i got a stage 7 jet kit, so that would explain some, but damn 35 mpg?

So don't fill up - run it damn near dry, then pour in a couple litres / quarts. That's all you'll need for a test run.

so do you know how you detect spark knock? could that be what my fast tapping is? if so why would my bike run as good as it dus?

No, Whistler Pro 78. The Bel is a bit pricey to be hanging out in the rain. Th ePro 78 is listed as the best performing 'budget' detector out there(it and the whistler XTR690). The Pro 78 is LOUD...and I know about 'em for a few
miles on straight roads, and for a couple corners on the twsity ones.
Spark knock is spark knock.....umm sounds kinda like a coffee can with marbles in it, or gravel thrown onto a tin roof.
That is just a new one on me/us- A 699 stroker. There's 619, 630, 660 big bores. details of getting to 699 on stroke would be much appreciated by more than just me

Ok, re:- coolant In hot climates ie Florida when I lived there was a problem when Engine Ice came out I ran it in the West Indies and other hot places never had a problem with it.
As to gas If you are running premium now wait till the tank is say 50 % empty add Mid to it see how you run .
No problem use out the tank, fill 25% of tank full mid see how you go.
runs ok fill the tank use half then put in say 25% of a tank of low . see how she runs
if ok try 50% of atank of almost pure low.
Only you. your ears and your the seat of your pants will tell you what is best for that engine.
Oh yeh 4 whole dollars a gallon lucky you it is 1.40 UKP per litre !!!!!!!! or 2.293USD per litre OR 10.83 agallon
that is 3.9 UK gallons per tank (ie 18Ltrs) costs 41.274 USD per tank full
So I hope you guys steal Gad dafties oil fields so the price drops and then hell may freeze over too LoL
