bike wont start grrrrrrr

Post by jos21802001 »

Ok first off I ran it all last year no problems then it started giving me problems to start b4 riding season got to cold. Well the problem for rough starting was bad bowl gasket. Went to yamaha and got a new one put it on. The was a little hard to start but bowl was dry no problem there got it running and it ran good. well couple days later went out and it just doesnt want to start at all. i took all the gas out and changed filter. still not wanting to start. It would back fire alittle. then i got some starting fluide sprsayed a little in it. started back firing a little more and blue flame out the 2nd over carb from left side of bike. then it back like i was shooting my shotgun lol my ears still ringing......funny thing is i live right across (like 40 feet from the New Market police department lol) it back fired 3 times and still not starting. It is getting fuel i can seee that in each carb. I took my wire checking tool out and it is getting fire. Put new battery in it. The new fuel filter and gas. The sparkplugs i changed in oct ti ngk irn. The coils are good ... i dont understand she was running fine less then a week ago grrrrrrr. I know i need to scy the carbs but she runs with the setting it is at now with no problems just not wanting to idle. lol so please give me some input to help me out.

A couple of comments:

The bowl gasket had nothing to do with not starting. Now the leak is fixed. It pops and backfires so you have fuel and spark. Good.

You say there is flame shooting out of one of the carbs. That means you must be trying to start with the airbox off - correct? Put the air box on and start it.

The bike will start and run without the airbox but not always depending on how lean it is running. Even if it runs you can't give it any throttle with the airbox off.

If it still acts goofy you may have to check the firing order. It sounds like you had it running after changing plugs but I mention firing order in case you had the wires off and on since then.

hi,
if the bike has been standing, changing to fresh fuel will not help without cleaning the carbs (particularly pilot jets) put the battery to charge over night so to be sure you have full volts/amps to the firing system & you are not "drowning" the spark.

Check the plus are a} clean & b} dry and the spark plug leads are in the right order.

sounds like you need a valve adjustment, even if your float bowl is leaking the fuel pump is still gonna keep pushing fuel into there until the float stops the flow. between the rough starting and now firing through the carb id say its a good place to start with out knowing what kinda mileage the bikes got. you can confirm this with a compression/leak down test
