Does anyone know what is the round thing with 4 screws in the middle of the inside of the clutch cover for? I want to modify the clutch cover but i don't know what it's there for. Thanks!

I don't know why that piece is there but I have seen video of these engines running with a plastic window fitted into the cover so I know that everything works without it. I can only guess that the purpose is for heat dissipation or noise attenuation or both.

its there to adsorb resonance aka vibration and noise, theirs a rubber damper behind those 4 bolts

Can something bad happen if those vibrations were not absorbed?

i would imagine and it would just make more noise since it dosent really connect to anything and dosent appear to be structural

that would be cool to see when its all said and done, i thought about doing that but the thermal cycles and different expansion rates kinda kept me from doing it cus id hate to have a leak cus of a part that makes my motor look cool with out any performance gains

It will make your bike lighter
But seriously. It would suck in a crash because it wouldn't fair well at all.

It would make my bikee look cool. I dont't think that in a crash, the clutch cover is such in a great danger of getting damaged.... I have to hope i will not crash, because if i would i would strangle myself, as i've put a lot of blood sweat and tears in this bike.

T_G,
If you do a window in the clutch, take a look at how Yamaha do it for oil level sites.
I only did this once, and I have no photo of it to show you, BUT what I did was make the site ring & base with the with acrylic & "O" ring first. Then I cut the hole in the case just a tad bigger than the clear section, disassembled the unit ie took out the Acrylic & rubber "O" ring, put the top cap back into the base (help stop distortion when welding ) and then welded the base over the hole in the case.
It was my idea that the less you weaken the case structure the better, in a fall the base edge would get the good news but the Acrylic & top sealing ring would be relatively safe.
If you are confused by this send me a PM and I will sketch out the design for you
