On the left side this fairing mount is bolted to the choke but what happens on the right is there a spacer of sorts in there or does in mount directly to the frame?

Check an online parts fische source there is a part called an air scoop that I believe goes in there. One on each side. Altghough I think that is a liter bike or a 750 in the photo and my comments is intended for a 600 FWIW.

Yea I though one of those air scoops might mount there, looks like I'll just space it out. It's actually a 3en2 fzr400 which has the same lowers as the 600.

hi all,

i got a 600 genesis (1990). on the right-hand side there is a little u-shaped metal bit which is attached to the frame from one end and the other end attaches to the fairing.

Kind of like this:

--------

* = hole where the bolt holding the fairing goes.
Frame on the left. Obviously not in scale or anything like that. I hope you get the idea.
