My concern would be rapid rotor wear. That is what happens on cars with ceramic pads (based on the claims of some friends I have). The description says that rotor life is actually increased with the use of these pads. Sounds good if true. So why isn't everyone using them? Probably cost is a major factor.

You have posted a very good question and I hope that more people contribute to this topic. I tried to search for an unbiased, real world answer to the rotor wear question and all I can find are claims by pad manufacturers that rotor life is increased.

That is all I could seem to find too. I would love to hear from someone here that used ceramic as we could get a review not from that manufacture. If I hear nothing good or bad I may just give them a shot. I have a spare set of rotors just in case.

i think the whole theory that the rotors wear faster with ceramic pads is all hogwash. most if not all car manufacturers (from atleast the late 90's with foreign cars) use ceramic pads from the factory. just as an example at the parts store i work at we have a 2008 colorado 2wd truck that we run parts around in, it didn't need pads until about 50,000 miles, and just pads no new rotors, nor were the rotors turned down. i have ceramic pads on my pontiac and have zero problems. that said...

could the seller really mean sintered pads and not ceramic?

Hmm,
that is provided that the manufacturer of the vehicle matched the rotor material to be used with ceramic pads.
Some how I do not believe that Mr.Yamaha made the FZR with the capability of having ceramic pads used . I remember having problems with 1980's bikes with guys using scintered pads let alone ceramic.

If you have a pair of spare OEM disc try it by all means, might be safer to use the modern wavy disc and their different composition with the pads.

it all depends on how you use your brakes if you use then like a normal sane person they will last as long as oem's and have about the same wear, but if you do hardcore hand fulls of brake they have a more aggressive bite and a harder pad so they will create more heat and friction and that wears the rotor more than stock but thats the trade off for more stopping power
