FZRSupport: the FZROnline Archive

So I did this rebuild a few years ago. I always wanted to post the pics up on the Archives but never got around to it. Since the Archives are no more, I will try to be even more active here. I've started a thread in the streetfighter section since that is where the direction of my bike is headed. But for the rebuild it was kept relatively basic, so here ya go. Lots and lots of pics. Hope you dig em. For some reason the pics are getting the edges cut off of them. You can see them in full in my album. If ya wanna.


First Up. Pics the P.O. took of the bike when he was selling it. Take a few minutes and relish everything that is going on here!



Shortly after I got it home, it needed to be less...mystical. Plus it needed some turn signals!



Next up. Time to mod the front end.



That configuration lasted a year or so. But after doing a pretty major road trip, and dealing with a few mechanical/electrical issues, it was time to finally do a full overhaul.

I certainly hope she was priced accordingly... WOW! Not sure I would have taken her home.

You really did a great job on the transformation. The FZR is truly a bike that can be modified with almost limitless possibilities. The pics are awesome!

you must be a pro, i envy good work like that, i just dont have the patience. my idea of a makeover is a pressure washer. that is one sick bike man!

Thanks guys. I got lucky and got her for only $800. As for being a pro...not so much. Just patient and I had a vision of what I wanted. The color is called Metallic Cobalt Blue. It's pretty cool, it has this colorshift thing that they don't advertise. I think it's from the metallic flakes. Since then I've done some other mods. Like the Ford Coil, exhaust, coolant reservoir. I'm currently in the process of making her a single seat streetfighter. Now if I could only find a tail light for a '03 R6...

Do you know what header that is? I have one I bought with a parts lot but haven't been able to narrow down the manufacturer of it.

Great job on the bike. I'm guessing you got it for a steal.

He's got listed "Vance & Hines Supersport Header" in his signature, which I believe it is. Just looks like it was modified a bit to fit.

Def not a SS header. I have one of those too and it looks it looks nothing like that. The collecter is at a slant instead of stacked on top of each other.

Very nice job well done! Poor bike was in bad hands it looked like.
Did you do the frame paint yourself? If so, what did you do and use?
And what type or brand high-temp paint did you use for the engine and exhaust?

I must say, i look forward to posts like these-- the big color photos, the attention to detail-- methodical craftsmanship.

Thanks for the input guys. As for the header, I was assuming it was a V&H SS since I saw someone elses posted somewhere as it being the same header. I apologize for any confusion. Not trying to get one over on anyone. That makes me wonder, WTH is it?!

I did do the paint myself, in fact I did the entire overhaul myself. Paint, engine, electrical. All of it. If I remember correctly the paint I used for the frame is Rustoleum Hammered Finish Black. I like the finish it gives. And it seems relatively durable. The paint on the motor was most likely a rustoleum as well, but I would recommend not using flat black. As soon as any gas hits it, it just wipes right off. It's a pisser! The exhaust was a high heat paint that I got from ACE hardware. Store brand, if I remember right. It worked really well, I just wasn't too hip on seeing road grime and dead bugs fried to it, so I switched to black. Looks better I think.

There was a speedo on the bike when I finished the rebuild. I used one for a bicycle. The one I got goes up to 180mph. Why a bike computer goes that high, I'll never know, but it did. Since then I replaced it with a TrailTech Vapor gauge. Lot's more info!

I will be putting up some more pics soon, I hope, of a few of the mods I've done since the rebuild. Keep an eye out.

How difficult was it to toss that r6 rear shock on there? I need a replacement, bad , i still have the stock one with the reservoir

The stock FZR600 shocks did not have reservoirs so if your current shock has one, it's not the OEM unit. Check with Reelrazor on the R6 shock swap. He puts together and sells complete bolt-on kits.

It was relatively simple. I just went to ace hardware, and found the spacers that would work for me. I ended up using an insert for the sleeve and separate spacers. but it got the job done just as well for about $2. As for the dogbones to get it back to correct height, I used a piece of steel that is typically used for lashing two pieces of wood together. I then cut it and drilled holes for my riding height, and voila! Custom dogbones for about $8! Plus you get the advantage of telling people that you did it yourself!
