At the risk of enticing jokes from the gallery,,,, i was wondering if anyone could help me with my floppy gauge set.

I just got back from a fast ride on a twisty road, and the bike was running beautifully. Except that the gauge set was bouncing back and forth, and it became distracting. Mine is an 89 model, and that first year the only mounting point on the set was on the bottom with 2 bolts. Behind it was a wedge of foam that keeps it from slamming off the birdcage.

Anyway, if you have an 89 model, you know what i mean.

my '89 has no foam behind the gauges never did since ive had it, but that doesnt mean anything. there should be rubber grommets with metal collars/washer jobber on the bottom where the bolts are holding the gauge set. maybe your missing the collars? my gauges move alittle but nothing i find alarming, but i think the foam might be a good idea.

Hi Lenny -- yeah-- i have the grommets, and even replaced them, the collars, etc are all there, it just wobbles back and forth with our less than smooth roads here.
I was poking around the web, and someone suggested using 2 -sided tape on the back of the gauges to hold it against the foam block.

huh, i personally would try thicker foam before adding double sided tape.
i just looked on the parts fiche and yeah your right there is sappost to be something there.
i dont know how exactly thick it is but maybe try some truck camper tape, its foam tape that goes around the top of a truck bed when putting a camper in the back of it, it should come in a few different thicknesses and has adhesive on one side maybe that would help.
