Painting Engine/Wheels

Post by ng86 »

Hey guys I had a few questions about painting my engine/wheels.
First off what type of paint should I get for the engine?
I'm guessing some high temp enamel but I'm not sure.
And for the wheels should I just forget the paint and get them powder coated?
How much do you think that'd run me?
Any input would be awesome! Thanks

Engine paint works fine. Anything above 500 degrees. I wouldn't go anything except powdercoating or you'll be doing it every year. Get ahold of Nate (thatkid) about pricing. He's pretty far away but could get you started.

When it comes to the wheels I would only powder coat. They take an amazing amount of abuse and, in the long run, it will be much cheaper. Depending on your area and what you're looking for colorwise, expect anywhere from $70+ per rim. That's also if you bring them the rim sans everything.

Depending on what you're looking for I do have a set of gloss black rims available. I can press in new bearings before sending them off if you're interested.

Hey guys so i've been offline for a very long time and i was still interested in the rim if you still had it. Black is the way to go. Anyway i've been putting it off because i was debating on getting a different swingarm to get a wider tire and then the rim would be rendered useless. Any tips? Thanks, Nick

Ng,
If i was smart I would be talking to Nate (That Kid) and asking him how much for his black set & if he would do part exchange I.E send him my rims and when he has them & some cash , he would send me the black set. very quick turn round :-}

I have a set I can sell you and ship out with bearings. All you'd have to do is take it to a place and have the tires swapped. Swap rotors over and you're set. 1 day of down time.

Well that might be the way to go then, how much would it be total? And do you happen to have any pics of them? Thanks!

I would never go through the process of stripping and painting my rims... what a nightmare! I saved almost nothing over powder coating and the downtime was awful.

My mind is set on powder coating, i was thinking about paint but i dont want to have to re-do it every 6 months or so. Lol i couldnt imagine the amount of time it took to strip them, well manually that is. Wish i had a machine shop close to me with a media-blaster..

I checked it out, man that is some good stuff I'm going to have to build one for myself.

Thanks for the info George!

I just painted mine this weekend using Engine paint from Eastwood. Turned out OK. Easy paint to spray. Took picture with my camera phone so not very clear.Image
