Im looking to buy a FZR 600 motor and drop it into my FZR 400 chasis. My question is are there any big differences between a 90 fzr 600 motor and a 97 fzr 600 motor ? or are they basically the same ? what year would u recomend for me ?.
Do i have to run the air box with the carbs, can i use like k&n pod filters ? whats the good setup for the fzr 600 ? thanks guys.

They are all basically the same. Main difference is that the VR changed around 95. You can even drop a YZF600 into that 400 frame.

Unless you have tuning skills and the necessary tools, stick with the stock air box. With a jet kit and a nice aftermarket exhaust, you can get a sweet sounding, smooth running FZR.

In addition to the VR, the 89-91? FZR600 engine has a oil filter cartridge whereas the later years had a spin on oil filter.
