Clutch pin broken?

Picked up a project bike, previous owner told me the clutch pin is broken, bike is in permanent neutral. I figure for $200 I might as well tinker around with it. How do I go about seeing if he was telling the truth about this clutch pin?

OK the front sprocket cover should pull off (all bolts removed and gear shift linkage) there you will find the clutch push rod, if that is seized (unlikely) causing the clutch to be permanently disengaged, or the clutch is burnt out. That would give permanent neutral (no drive), If your Neutral lamp is permanently illuminated it's probably a fault in the transmission, maybe the shift drum Read RageDigital's Transmission Repair <<<<< click there

Thanks for the info, its much appreciated. And what if its just the clutch pin? How do I check that?

Since you're digging in deep, I highly suggest getting a Service Manual for your FZR. They can be had fairly cheap and will be a great reference tool when tearing into your bike. eBay FZR Service Manual

If it's not going into NEUTRAL, it may be a real bad situation underneath in the tranny box. You may have a snapped shift fork or the shift drum may have some major issue going on. It could be several things.

It's ONLY in neutral. The guy I bought it from took the sprocket cover off but only put the bolts back in a couple turns, so the cover is loosey goosy as is the clutch cable attached to it so there's no tension in the clutch lever. He told me it had a broken clutch pin. I unbolted the cover and removed the shifter but it just wiggles and won't come off. So I'm wondering how to get it off and what to look for as far as this clutch pin goes. Ordered a manual today, thanks for helping me out

With the engine off it should be possible to shift through the entire range just by bumping the bike back and forth. If it WILL NOT got into first or second while rolling the bike slowly forward, it ain't the clutch... banghead canofworms

Was everything back to normal when you replaced the pin? Was it easy to fix and find?

Once you take the 5 or so bolts off, it should slide right off. You may have to wiggle it, but it will come off.

That breaking was the straw that broke the camels back
I'm parting the bike out, its not worth it to fix.

So its not that the pin is such a big deal that its not worth fixing, its that it has too many other problems? Bc from what I hear the pin is $10. Have any aftermarket parts on the bike you don't need? Is be interested in the passenger pegs and brackets for both sides....

So does anyone know what replacing a clutch pin entails?
