Tail Chopping Questions????
So Im sure im doing a tail chop, I have an idea of what i want to do i just had a few questions for people who have done it. Did any of you make an undertail? With all that wind does the overflow bottle ever come loose? Those bars on the underframe, i dont know what they are called but they kinda look like handles, the VR heat shield is bolted to it, But anyways with them removed is the frame less capable of handleing weight cause i often go for rides with my girlfriend on there and im 210 and she is about 140.
Any other helpfull hints would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!

Re: Tail Chopping Questions????
Mine was already cut when i bought it (R6 tail) no "handles" and carries a pillion no problem, I've chopped more off it, to get a higher lift on the tail. The overflow bottle needs replacing and relocating on the R6 tail, so I can't comment on that.
Others have done it, look through the Hybrid Sports Bike forum, could be some photos there.
EDIT My eldest son is around 240, and has ridden pillion many times.

I your are talking about the "U" shaped handles that the helmet lock is attached to, they don't provide any real structural support other than a mount point for your rear fairings. You would lose your helmet lock, but that's really not a big deal IMO. I chopped most of mine off after I modified my stock tail fairings.
Below is a pic of the coolant resevoir I concocted. Many "tail choppers" fab up their own. It doesn't need to be fancy and all of the fitting I used are pretty common at your local hardware store. Shown below is not only the overflow (with temporary "mounting devices"), but also it just so happens to show the chopped off handle and that I cut it to retain the fairing mount point as it is still utilized after said tail chop.
If you want to see the finished product...viewtopic.php?f=21&t=6614

Re: Tail Chopping Questions????
Some people have used ATV coolant overflow bottles since they are smaller. They are all over eBay.
If you're chopping the stock tail pieces, it is extremely difficult to create an undertail since the distance is so great. Not saying it can't be done, but it would be difficult.
