valve cover gasket

Post by the454 »

Hey guys I am going nuts looking for a new valve cover gasket. I keep checking ebay but keep striking out. Mine leaks pretty bad, to the point that oil will drip on the headers and it ignited once (ghost rider eat your heart out my flames are real), that was an interesting ride. So what else has everyone used to fix a leaking valve cover gasket? I have taken it off cleaned my surfaces and used some black rtv with the old gasket but it didn't work.

get yourself some gasket "paper" & make your own. I use a socket on the end of my "birdie" finger as a tiny hammer and cut the paper on the edge of the item its going to fit.

i have done that in the past on other flat surfaces but this one has a rubber molded gasket that sits in a channel

You could have a blocked/kinked breather pipe (crankcase to airbox) if so the pressure build up in the engine will blow the rubber seal. Check the breather for blockages before you fit a new gasket.

Use RTV without the gasket. Should work just fine.

Then remove the old one entirely clean the surfaces and use RTV let it "cure" for 24 hours at least , I tend to use both paper & the rtv.If I'm thinking i have a slight warp problem
