I know it has been beat to death but....


i am going to swing though the auto parts joint and get a new oil filter and some oil for the bike. i ran 20w50 full synthetic last time but the oil filter i got was wrong so i need to know do you guys know a part number or something where i can get a oil filter from the local auto parts store by chance

any cheap recomendations on oil as well (i have 8 bikes an all are getting new fluids today so i am not watning to go broke) my harley gets amsoil the rest get generic and run fine on that

NAPA/WIX (5)1365 does NOT work - at least not the current version!

There are highly significant differences between different brands of oil filters. Most modern Japanese motorcycles use the same oil filter as the Mazda V-6. For the best protection in your bike, use Mobil-1 M1-108 / M1-110 oil filters, $12 at AutoZone; or Purolator Pure One PL14612 / PL14610 filters, about $6 at Pep Boys. Next best, use Bosch 3300 / 3323 filters, about $6 at AutoZone, or SuperTech ST7317, about $2 at Wal-Mart.

I use the m1-108. Same filter as my car: '06 Subaru Legacy, non-turbo.

I use the purolator L14612 or pl it the same filter capacity as kn but half the cost. Then I use castrol semi-synthetic 10w40. No problems so far for me.

Use diesel engine oil, of the correct grade. Unlike petrol oil it has less of these friction modifying witchcraft chemicals, so you can go synth without clutch slippage, for far less than the cost of specialist bike oils.

Same here, I use Rotella and love it.

i ran castrol semi-synthetic 10w40 on my first change and hated what it did, had such bad slipage on the clutch... so bad that i pulled the plate to inspect them... no problem at all, so i used what oil was left when i put it all back together and still had the slip... did not even think of the oil on the wet clutch! but when i swapped to Vavoline high milage semi synthetic it was like a whole new bike! so much so that my wife asked me if i replaced the clutch in it when she took it out yesterday. but i did learn a lesson... DO NOT USE A WIX FILTER!

do not be suprised that advice freely given is ignored, most people think " free=useless "

not at all, when i read your post i had already had it on the bike and the oil was finished up... actaully i read it while at the shop and that made me go out an look at the bike to find the oil all over... would nto call that ignoring ya

Well, at least I can be sure it's not just some weird Canadian version of the NAPA/WIX filter not sealing well.

Btw, NAPA actually sells the Bosch filters, as well (p/n RB3300), which is what I ended up using. FRAM? I'd rather skip a few oil changes...
