R6 shock

Can anyone tell me if I buy an R6 shock should I get the one with the yellow or red spring? I would like to buy the kit I have seen but seem to be having trouble getting in touch with reelrazor. I don't mind buying the shock and having the adjustable bones made but the complete kit would have been nice. Any help would be great.

red spring 06+

you can get an 06+ with a silver spring, that just means its from an anniversary bike

So I wonder what years the ones with the yellow spring are. There are a few on ebay. Does anyone know if reelrazor still makes the kit. I am guessing he is a busy man cause he does not seem to get on here too often.

I also try contacting reelrazor for a few weeks but no answer. So I went and bought and made my own kit. The yellow spring shock should be 08 - 09. I just bought one off ebay and it practically drops right in Have to curve the bottom and make some spacers. This seems pretty cheap. -->

What did you do to restore the ride height? I am 5'11" and ride 2up with my girlfriend so do not want to loose the height.

thats what the dogbones are for

I have a set of the 138mm dogbones that restore it to stock ride height, and I dont plan on using them.

also yellow are the 1st gen(99-02) shocks

The 06-10 R6s uses the red spring, the 08-10 R6v(is it still v?) has the yellow spring. Either will work fine with a stock FZR swingarm, and the lengths are the same. The big advantage to the 08+ yellow spring shock is when you do a swingarm swap to a bigger swingarm that would hit the reservoir of the shock, you can flip it around 180* so the reservoir is facing forward and it clears fine with no extra modification, 06 shock has to have the mount modified. If youre still running a stock swingarm, then either will work the same. I made my own dogbones out of some 1/4" x1-1/4" flat stock.

What were the lengths of the new bones to get to stock or a little higher. This seems to be the way I will go.

I just bought the shock. Now I just need the bones. Can anyone tell me whet length to make them to give me an inch or 2 extra height? I am 5'11" and weigh 190 and ride with my girl sometimes so the extra heigh will be good.

138mm for back to stock

130 gets you 1.5ish-2 of lift.

i have a set of 130's laying around

I am waiting on a reply from reelrazor as he did contact me. If I do not hear from him soon I will gladly buy the 130s from you. The adjustable from reelrazor would be nice. Thanks

with the 08 shock with the reservoir facing forward did you have to alter the battery box in any way as i seem to remember reading that the reservoir lifted (read hit) the bottom of the battery box ?

I dont have a stock battery box, and havent for a while, so I cant comment with
absolute certainty but I am about 95% sure the 08 shock fits flipped with no other mods necessary aside from the normal r6 shock stuff and no interference. Heres another member's setup on a 400. Looks like its got plenty of room. From this pic, it looks like it would only be a problem in its normal rearward configuration, but it clears.

And another member that I modded a YZF swingarm for is running a 08 shock flipped with stock tail and battery with no interference problems that he mentioned.
