Plugs.
Drop the side panels only.
Unbolt the radiator and pull this downwards.
Then you get rather simple access to the spark plugs.
These take the "small" plug socket(5/8")
Use a common 3/8" ratchet and a short extension and you´re in business.
Word of advice is to blow the seat area for the plugs out with compressed air or similar as small stones et al commonly gets trapped down there and can wreck havoc to your engine if these fall through as you pull the plugs.
That apart it´s a straightforward mission.
Make sure the spark plugs are the recomended NGK ones.
Old bikes "sweat".
Ie,there´s most likely some oil residue all over the place as you get the side panels off.
Shade tree common petroleum based degreaser and a common dishwasher brush works wonders and then just rinse with common water in liberal amounts.
If you opt to remove the airfilter box it is very common to see rather extensive amounts of residue around the carbs and their axles.
Clean that out.The bike´ll thank you afterwards.

Hi,
A lot of people fail to notice that YAMAHA actually put a hole into that area where the plugs sit specifically for blowing out the debris in that valley.
As to the exhaust are you talking down pipes or the silencer ?
FP,
PLEASE put your location in your personal profile (the English Chapter needs all the support it can get

P,
take a look thro SEARCH & the WIKI I am sure that one or two guys used a later model Yamaha down pipes to replace their old rusted ones . I know one guy (ThatKid?) was making up ready to go sets as there is some "tinkering" involved in the fit
Thanks for updating the profile there are at least 2 / 3 other members close to you (Stig & his 1k, Fifi & his racing 400 & FartBlood with a 'fightered 600?)
